Simon Community Scotland receives free connectivity from Vodafone to help tackle digital exclusion in Scotland

22 December 2022
Simon Community Scotland today announced it will be using free connectivity, via Vodafone’s charities.connected initiative, to tackle digital exclusion in Scotland. Simon Community Scotland will use the connectivity to: maintain the sustainability of the Get Connected 500 project, which helps tackle digital exclusion for those experiencing or at risk of homelessness. The connectivity is set to benefit 500 people in Scotland.

Vodafone’s charities.connected initiative is open to any registered charity that would benefit from free connectivity, either to improve its digital capability, extend its services or help the individuals and families it supports get online. Registered charities across Scotland can apply for free connectivity, in the form of SIM cards with 40GB data a month, plus free calls and texts, for six months [here].

Lorraine McGrath, CEO of Simon Community Scotland said: “Over the last few years Simon Community Scotland has been blazing a trail with our digital inclusion work. We have provided almost 500 devices through 2022, also providing data and training. Our work has found that digital inclusion is vital in helping people through and out of homelessness. Thank you so much to Vodafone for recognising how important this is and for supporting our work.”

Nigel Gallear, Digital Inclusion manager at Simon Community Scotland said: “This support from Vodafone will enable us to sustain connectivity for the participants in our Get Connected 500 scheme for a further 6 months and enable them to continue to enjoy the benefits of digital. Thank you, Vodafone”

Emma Reynolds, Head of Communications, Sustainability and Regulatory Affairs at Vodafone UK said:

“We are committed to tackling digital exclusion. We hope that by providing free connectivity to Simon Community Scotland and other amazing charities across the UK that have such an enormous impact on their local communities, we can help create a more inclusive digital society. We urge any organisation who thinks they can benefit to apply online and look forward to hearing how this connectivity has helped.”

Vodafone’s charities.connected initiative is part of its commitment to tackle digital exclusion and connect one million people by the end of 2022
