£1 on the bill
08 December 2024

Across Glasgow and Edinburgh, restaurants are coming together to raise vital funds for people experiencing homelessness this winter. The initiative, led by Simon Community Scotland, allows diners to easily donate £1 directly to the charity from their bill.
Participating restaurants in Glasgow include Eusebi Deli, Margo, and Crabbshakk Botanics. In Edinburgh, The Merchant Lesiure Group (including Pipers Rest and The Newsroom venues ) have joined the campaign.
Marie McShane, Relationship & Partnerships Manager, said; “The need for our safe places and support is greater than ever. We’re doing all we can, but really need businesses in Edinburgh and Glasgow to help. For me, it really highlights how communities coming together can make a big difference. This is quite simple and easy to do and we are exceptionally grateful to all participating restaurants and their customers for their support.”
Rowan King, from Margo, said; “The team at Margo are proud to be helping Simon Community Scotland in their work to care for people experiencing homelessness. That’s why we have joined their ‘£1 on the Bill Campaign’ this winter, which will go to helping those who need it most. Simon Community are at the front line providing support to hundreds of people every single day, and night, but they can’t do this alone. With our customers’ help, we hope to raise money to help provide safe places, support and hope to people experiencing homelessness.”
Jade Falconer, from The Merchant Group, said “We were absolutely delighted to get involved and we have more restaurants participating this year. Sadly, the need for support is all too evident on the streets of Edinburgh at present. We are determined to play our part in helping and encourage other restaurants and businesses to help as well if they can.”
How it Works:
When you dine at one of these restaurants, you’ll see a £1 “donation” option on your bill. If you’re happy to go ahead the money will go directly to Simon Community Scotland’s winter appeal.
Early Success:
The campaign has already seen positive feedback, with diners who are happy to donate and staff who themselves can see the devastating impact of homelessness in our cities and are keen to help.
Going Above and Beyond:
Diners are showing their generosity in heartwarming ways. One customer at Eusebi Deli even donated £30 instead of the suggested £1. Additionally, some customers have sought out Simon Community Scotland’s Just Giving donation page to find contribute more funds directly.
Last Year’s Impact and Future Goals:
In 2023, the campaign raised over £10,000 for Simon Community Scotland. This year, organizers are aiming to smash that record and provide even more critical support during the cold winter months.
All funds raised will go towards Simon Community Scotland’s winter appeal, which provides vital services to those experiencing homelessness.
